Egg-citing Events at Eland

Giggles, squeals and tantrums could be heard in the Eland offices this week, as an Easter draw took place with 2 luxury Hotel Chocolat eggs, white chocolate sheep and crème eggs up for grabs. After Senior Financial Controller Darren Mountain was booted out of the competition for putting his own name in the hat 30 times, genuine lucky winners of the luxury eggs, Jean-Sébastien Pelland and Wendy Barnes found themselves with a lot of friends for the remainder of the day.
Success for Eland at Electrical Industry Awards 2009

It was drinks all round on Friday as Eland Cables celebrated its first ever Electrical Industry Awards win. The title Marketing Campaign of the Year was awarded to the company for its innovative ‘Eland does the Full Monty’ campaign – designed to promote the strip, zoom and rotate functions on the website’s 3D cable models. With everything from emailshots, coasters and T-shirts to a rather revealing internal campaign, Eland proved that buying cable can be both practical, fun and interactive.

Family fun at Eland’s Distribution Centre

A BBQ, a bouncy castle and a bit of friendly sumo wrestling ensured Eland’s first ever family day was one to remember. Organised by Tony Elkin and Lisa Tulloch at our Denaby Distribution Centre, the event gave colleagues, friends, family and suppliers the chance to get together and enjoy the sunshine. Logistics General Manager, Darren Cusworth, took charge of the tongs at the BBQ and we’re glad to report that everyone who tasted his food made it to work on Monday unscathed. In fact, the day was such a success we hear plans for the next event are already taking shape.
Eland makes a splash at solar boat championships

Elandflex Cable had its 15 minutes of fame in Fayetteville, Arkansas, earlier this summer at the 2009 Solar Splash World Championship.
Used to connect the battery and motor on board Southampton University’s high-powered solar boat ‘Tarka’, our PVC Flexible cable played a crucial role at the sustainable technology event. So we weren’t surprised when the team picked up a whole host of awards – including ‘Best Score for a Rookie Team’ and 10th place overall. Not bad for the UK’s first ever entrant. Denaby Distribution Centre is right on cue

Cutting Operative Craig Wild beat off competition from the rest of the Denaby team to take the title of Eland Cables’ Pool Champion 2009. Sales Executive Matt Williams put up a good fight in the final – taking an early 2-1 lead – but it was favourite Craig who eventually scooped the cash prize and winners’ trophy, with a final score of 3-2.
It’s the first knockout competition for Eland and, according to Logistics General Manager Darren Cusworth who organised the event, it certainly won’t be the last. ‘The competition created a buzz around the site and encouraged lots of team bonding,’ says Darren, ‘so we’re already planning a table football competition for later in the year.’
