NR-approved Axle Counter Cable available now

Axle Counter Cable is now quicker, cheaper and easier to install than ever before thanks to the development of Eland’s new Network Rail approved specification.
The new Axle Counter Cable specification, developed by Eland Cables, is designed to replace the existing specification already used for train detection across much of the UK rail network. By using a unique layer of glass fibre to protect against rodent attacks, the cable no longer requires steel tape armour, meaning it is more cost-effective, flexible, easier to strip and doesn’t require metallic bonding.
‘Eland Cables has worked hard to create a product that will both reduce installation times for engineers and increase efficiency across the rail network as a whole,’ says Technical Manager Chris Barnes, who has worked closely with Network Rail on the new design. Elands adds LSZH Copper Trackside Cables to NR-approved Rail Telecoms range

Eland Cables’ NR-approved rail telecoms cable portfolio now includes a full range of LSZH and Armoured LSZH Cables.
Network Rail approval (NR/PR/TEL/00015), awarded to Eland on 11 September, covers 32 variants of 0.63mm and 0.9mm LSZH and Armoured LSZH Copper Trackside Cables. This builds on Eland’s success earlier this year when, as part of its product acceptance strategy, 32 variants of PE and Armoured PE Copper Trackside Cables were also approved.

Eland Cables/Unipart Rail win bid for NR Synergy contract

Eland Cables is to play an important role in the development and maintenance of the UK’s railway network, following a successful bid to supply electrical cables and related services to Network Rail.
The Synergy contract, now in place, involves a collaboration between Eland Cables and Unipart Rail – a materials solutions, engineering and logistics provider. The two companies have worked together successfully for more than seven years – most notably on the West Coast Route Modernisation (WCRM) project.
Network Rail awarded framework supplier status to the Eland Cables/Unipart Rail team based on its ability to deliver a wide range of NR-approved rail cables and accessories at competitive prices. In a joint statement, Managing Directors Philip Brown and Graham Jackson said: ‘By collaborating on Project Synergy, we can give rail customers greater choice and stock availability and even more competitive prices, while continuing to deliver fast turnaround times and a consistently high level of service.’

Eland’s Rail Telecoms Cables get NR seal of approval

Full product acceptance on Armoured Copper Trackside and Copper Trackside Cable now means Eland Cables has more Network Rail-approved rail telecoms cables than any other rail cable supplier.
The NR/PR/TEL/00015 approval (formerly RT/E/PS/00015), awarded on 28 May 2009, covers 32 variants of 0.63mm and 0.9mm PE and Armoured PE Copper Trackside Cable (from 2-pair to 100-Pair). This complements Eland’s already extensive range of Network Rail approved railway cables, including Screening Conductor Cable, Signalling Cables, Power Cables and MV Cables.
This approval – part of an ongoing product acceptance strategy – reinforces Eland Cables’ position as a one-stop-shop for rail cable supply. ‘To achieve product acceptance, Eland underwent an intensive period of testing and completed multiple compliance reports,’ says Technical and Projects Manager Chris Barnes, who managed the approval process. Managing Director Philip Brown adds: ‘We are delighted to have the quality of our cables recognised by Network Rail once again. Full steam ahead for Eland rail division at Railtex

Eland’s experienced rail division and trademark orange carpet drew in the crowds at Railtex 09 on 10-12 March.
The high-profile rail exhibition, which took place this year at Earl’s Court in London, provides a platform for those in the rail industry looking to find out more about railway equipment, technology and suppliers.
Visitors to the Eland stand were introduced to the company’s large range of NR-approved rail cables for track and stations – including Signalling Cable, Points Heating Cable, Section 12 Fire Integrity Cable and Trackfeeder Cable – its new online 3D cable models and footage of a ‘Spike’ quality test on MV Cable.
