Cables to the Antarctic Peninsula

The client:The Cambridge-based British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is a world leader in research into global environmental issues. With five Antarctic research stations, two royal research ships and five aircrafts, it is responsible for the UK’s national scientific activities in Antarctica. BAS has joint research projects with over 40 UK universities and more than 120 national and international collaborations.
The cables and related accessories were utilised, on a collaborative research project, into biodiversity and climate change, between the BAS and the NWO (the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research), to deliver a new facility at Rothera Research Station on the Antarctic Peninsula. This facility aims at providing a flexible research environment, incorporating interchangeable laboratory modules, tailored to the requirements of specific researchers.
The challenge:
Supply of cables and related accessories with excellent resistance to extremely low temperatures and changeable environment, without compromising on performance and safety.
Eland delivered all containers on time and within budget.
